Fercullen Irish Coffee
Fercullen Irish Coffee
Did you know that the Irish Coffee is a variation of the Irish tradition of adding whiskey to tea?
It was the creation of an Irish barman, Joe Sheridan, in 1943 at Shannon Airport. Joe transformed this tea and whiskey combination to suit the palate of the many visiting Americans who passed through Shannon Airport. He substituted coffee for the tea and dissolved sugar in the hot coffee before adding a generous measure of whiskey. As if that wasn’t delicious enough, he added softly whipped Irish cream. It was served in a glass so that the layer of cream could be seen rising to the top of the dark coffee creating a visually striking drink. Irish Coffee should be enjoyed without stirring but instead by drinking the coffee and whiskey mix through the soft Irish cream. This wonderful drink has remained popular and unchanged since then. Of course, we believe its best made with Fercullen Irish Whiskey!
